The American Red Cross of Central South Carolina’s Armed Forces Emergency Services keeps families linked during family emergencies, 24-hours a day, seven days a week through a world-wide communication system. Not only do military personnel and their families rely on the emergency communication services of the American Red Cross, but the Department of Defense requires Red Cross verification of family condition to make decisions about permitting service personnel to go home on emergency leave from anywhere in the world. More than 1500 families each year in our chapter area have a family emergency such as a serious illness or death, requiring the Red Cross to send vital information to or receive vital information from active duty military - including National Guard and reserve units. Red Cross counseling and financial assistance for emergency travel and help in assessing appropriate military and community resources, also helps military families cope with emergencies. For more AFES information contact our AFES Coordinator at 803-540-1215 or in a non emergency situation email gafforde@usa.redcross.org.
